The song itself sounds like something George Strait would have cut in the mid-2000’s, and coupled with Morgan’s excellent, smooth voice, this song’s sound is a definite plus. A crisp, heavenly fiddle opens the song and leads the way to a bouncy, fun melody that’s easy to enjoy. Throughout the song you’ll also hear sprinkles of steel guitar that really make you stop and think, “wow, we’ll actually be hearing those instruments on the radio again”.
The best part about “Missing” however is the story that it tells. The narrator in this song just wants to get away from everything for awhile. There’s nothing necessarily wrong with him or his life, he just needs to get away and breath. Heck, I know I’ve been there. Things don’t always have to necessarily be going out of hand in order to just need time away, and I like that the song approaches this theme from that perspective rather than the usual gloomy view. Not that it’s necessarily a bad thing to do that however. Heck, Tyler Farr did it excellently on “Suffer In Peace”. “Missing” however is the more light-hearted take on it, and it’s definitely just as effective.
Will this song change your world drastically and make you reflect on life? No, but that’s not the point of it anyway. “Missing” is a fun take on an often melancholy subject, and with the fantastic sound that it carries, I see no reason to believe why “Missing” won’t be another big hit for William Michael Morgan.
