The song revolves around a male narrator and his love interest. The woman is running away from a (presumably) bad boyfriend, and gets away with the narrator in his pickup truck (I wanna set your heart free ride with me I wanna be your getaway truck). Granted, there’s some cliches about how she looks good in blue jeans but it’s not an egregious error, and certainly doesn’t hinder the song’s enjoyability. The song is fun in its nature and comes across that way as well.
Like most Texas-Country, there’s a prominent use of country instruments. This song in particular features a ton of fiddle, and by God do they sound fantastic. The song is more uptempo, and features a driving rhythm which I think compliments the theme of escaping from your troubles.
“Getaway Truck” isn’t a song of the year type of song, but it is definitely a satisfying listen that is just plain and simply a ton of fun.
